Why do we find it so hard to believe in bio-energy healing? Why are we so resistant to the idea that it can work? Partly, it’s because science cannot fully explain or prove the concept. I’ll come back to this point.
Our modern attitude towards health also plays a significant role. Since the advent of petroleum-based pharmaceutical drugs—driven, some might argue, by the vast profits derived from ill health—we have grown accustomed to quick fixes. We seek a cure for symptoms rather than a holistic approach to treating the route cause.
Conventional medical treatment often disregards the body’s natural ability to heal itself, viewing the human body as a collection of parts, one or more of which may be broken and in need of fixing with drugs. This perspective encourages the belief that our health and well-being are primarily in the hands of medical professionals.
Additionally, the easy and often free access to medical assistance further complicates the issue: if you can get a pill for free, why would you pay for treatments that lack scientific validation? (Many studies have shown how effective energy healing can be but it’s still not widely backed by the medical community).
Over many years, conventional medicine has gained more and more power and we are now frightened, believing that treatment from a medical professional is the only way that we will get better.
We have forgotten that our bodies possess an innate capacity for healing. It’s not the plaster that heals us when we have a cut—it’s our own amazing body. It is programmed to heal itself. We are all healers.
Bio-energy views good health as the full engagement of all our wonderful aspects of being human, rather than merely the absence of symptoms.
The other big problem for energy healing is scientism – the belief that everything can be explained by modern science.
Life force energy, rather inconveniently, lies outside the framework of measurable proof that modern medicine requires.
Can modern science explain energy healing? Not fully, no.
However, neither can we work out how the ancient Egyptians built The Great Pyramids of Giza with such precision. Or how the massive stones at Stonehenge were transported and arranged so precisely.
We cannot navigate the oceans as skilfully as the ancient Polynesians, who journeyed vast distances across the Pacific using only the stars, ocean currents, and bird migrations. These remarkable skills remain unmatched by modern navigational methods.
Do you think that perhaps if we had just seen pictures or heard stories of the pyramids or of Stonehenge, if they did not still exist in physical form, that we might have surmised that they could not possibly have existed because we don’t know how to build them?
Energy healing and its benefits have been widely documented for thousands of years but unfortunately, the practitioners and patients are no longer around in physical form to give feedback. Does it mean that it doesn’t work because science can’t prove it? Will we discount thousands of years of knowledge and millions of examples of incredible stories of healing that suggest that it does indeed offer an alternative way to heal?
There is no denying the incredible benefits of modern medicine, but do you think that there might be a place for a combination of treatments? If the goals are the same – to improve our health and wellbeing – why can’t we work together? I would rather be anaesthetised when having an operation. I would not be visiting an energy healer if I broke my leg; if I have an infection, I value the option of taking antibiotics. But is modern medicine the answer to all of our health issues? What if we lived in a world where we combined ancient healing techniques with modern medicine? It’s my dream that one day we will be able to walk into a center for health and see a range of therapies on offer – from energy healing, to breathing classes, to meditation, massage and more.
Science has a history of initially resisting, then later embracing new ideas that challenge the status quo. Acupuncture was rejected but now widely accepted. Reiki had a similar path. I very much hope that bio-energy healing will one day be offered to people as an alternative route to healing.
Your body is incredible – it is programmed to heal itself. I am no-more a healer than you are – I have just been trained to stimulate your own body to work its magic.
You have all felt energy. Think of a wonderful friend who lights up a room with their positivity and warmth. They will have a large and healthy energy field around them. Then think of the friend who can drain you after a few minutes in their presence. Think of the times when you have walked into a room and known that there has just been an argument. You can feel the remnants of that energy.
Many factors affect our energy – trauma, illness, stress, the food we eat, the people we surround ourselves with, the thoughts we think, the content we consume, the quality of the air that we breathe.
You are more than a physical body. Take steps to nurture all aspects of your being – the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual, as our ancestors did. Even if you never seek treatment from an energy therapist, there is a lot you can do yourself to maintain the health of your energy system.
Commit to a 5 minute qi gong exercise daily (google Lifting the Sky and commit to doing this 10 times every morning for 3 months and see how you feel). Learn to meditate. Get a massage. Disconnect and just be. There are literally thousands of short videos and techniques on YouTube that can move your energy and make you feel better very quickly.
My goal is to inspire you to investigate further so that you can rediscover your own innate healing power.
